Ultra Violet Air Handler Bio Hazard
Control
Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused
by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis*. Anthrax
most commonly occurs in wild and domestic lower vertebrates (cattle,
sheep, goats, camels, antelopes, and other herbivores), but it can
also occur in humans when they are exposed to infected animals or
tissue from infected animals (CDC Website).
High output Ultra Violet (UV) Light Air
Purification Systems is known to be effective in killing multiple
types of viruses (please see below) and will reduce the risk
of exposure. Irradiation takes place in the confined spaces of the
Air Handler, thereby posing no threat to room occupants.
The B.C. UV Systems was specifically designed
to operate in HVAC systems. The high output tube provides up
to six times more energy than traditional UV lamps down to 32 degrees
Fahrenheit. Fewer units are required, resulting in less total
consumption.
The air flow velocity (fpm) of the air handling
system is a major factor in determining the dwell time microorganisms
spend within the HVAC cavity. It also affects the amount of heat
removed from the UV lamps. The higher the air flow rate, the more
UV light energy is required to achieve the desired destruction rate.
The high power output of the BC UV System assures maximum killing
power.
The typical standard for microbial control
in IAQ application is to destroy 90% of E.coli on a single pass.
By increasing the number of tubes and reflectors, destruction rates
in excess of 99% can be achieved.
The UV tubes continue to function efficiently
in cold temperatures with over twice the life of conventional UV
lamps. Typical tube life is one year under continuos operation conditions.
